Parole-4-Maine is a citizens’ collective calling for the re-establishment of parole and the re-establishment of hope. We believe incarcerated community members deserve the opportunity to contribute to the repair of Maine’s communities. We believe in redemption.
The Maine Prisoner Advocacy Coalition (MPAC) is a statewide group formed in 2007 to improve conditions for inmates, former inmates, their families, victims of crime and others. Our coalition members include, most importantly, offenders and their families and friends. Our organizational colleagues include groups well known for their powerful commitment and continued struggle for human rights: NAACP, ACLU, NAMI, Maine Council of Churches, MERN; and individuals dedicated to social justice and humane treatment of all people.
Maine Inside Out creates theater for social change in schools, prisons and in the community. Maine Inside Out groups create powerful theater to inform and engage the greater community in dialogue about social change.
Maine Youth Justice is a youth-led campaign fighting to end youth incarceration in Maine. We want to invest in a range of community based supports that respond to young people’s needs, support families, and build community. We are a campaign led by young people who have been incarcerated in Long Creek and directly impacted by the juvenile justice system. We are calling for the closure of Long Creek Youth Development Center, the end of youth incarceration, and the reinvestment of the $42 million dollars currently being spent to lock up and police Maine’s youth.
No Penobscot Jail Expansion is fighting against Penobscot County’s proposal to build a new jail that increases its current capacity to incarcerate. We support a vision for Penobscot County that funds health, healing, and housing — not a bigger jail.
